Things to Know
I. Permits
- All building & demolition permits are issued after a review process that generally takes 5 to 15 working days depending upon the complexity of the project and the sufficiency of the plans submitted.
II. Streets & Alleyways
- Any ditch, trench, & hole dug in the street or alley shall have the spoils removed and filled with base rock from the bottom of the hole to the top.
III. Electrical
- Copper wiring shall be used inside the structure up to and even with the riser to where it connects with the utility company.

Inspection Process Overview
Based on the MOST current ICC Codes & NEC
The following inspections are typically required for permitted projects. Additional inspections may be required depending on project type and scope. Contractors and/or property owners are responsible for scheduling inspections at the appropriate stages of work.
I. Footing/Foundation Inspection
- Before concrete is poured.
- Must verify depth, width, reinforcement, and soil conditions comply with approved plans and code requirements.
II. Slab or Under-Floor Inspection (if applicable)
- Before placement of concrete slab or floor sheathing.
- Includes verification of vapor barriers, reinforcement, plumbing, and electrical under-slab work.
III. Framing / Structural Inspection
- After framing, bracing, roof decking and fire-blocking are complete.
- Must occur before insulation, sheathing, or drywall installation.
- Includes inspection of beams, joists, trusses, and structural connections.
IV. Rough-In Inspections
- Plumbing: Water supply, drain, waste, and vent systems before concealment.
- Mechanical (HVAC): Ductwork, appliances, venting, and combustion air.
- Electrical (per 2023 NEC): Rough wiring, boxes, grounding, bonding, and service equipment.
- All rough-in inspections must be approved prior to insulation or covering.
V. Insulation & Energy Efficiency Inspection
- After insulation and vapor barriers are installed but before drywall.
- Must comply with IECC and approved energy code requirements.
VI. Fire/Smoke Protection Inspection (if applicable)
- Fire-rated assemblies, fire-stopping, draft-stopping, smoke barriers, and penetrations.
VII. Final Inspections
- Building Final: When all work is complete and code-compliant.
- Electrical Final: Devices, fixtures, service panels, grounding, and labeling.
- Plumbing Final: Fixtures, fittings, venting, and drainage.
- Mechanical Final: Equipment operation, clearances, venting, and safety controls.
- Certificate of Occupancy: Issued once all required finals are approved.
📌 Note: Inspections must be requested by the permit holder or contractor. Work must remain exposed until approved by the inspector. Covering or concealing work prior to inspection may result in removal at the contractor’s expense.
